Groundhogs Reportedly Digging up Bones After 'Taking Over' Cemetery

Visitors to a Canadian cemetery have complained about the state of the graveyard as groundhogs have apparently made their burrows there.

The Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery in Montreal, Quebec, is the largest cemetery in Canada, with a site of more than 340 acres.

That's a lot of land to maintain, and there have been complaints about groundhogs at the site which are believed to be responsible for human bones being pushed to the surface as the animals dig their burrows.

Such is the extent of the issue that the cemetery released a statement on the matter on the news section of its website, in which it advises visitors to "report any presence of above-ground bones" to the customer service line.

The cemetery says it has established a protocol for dealing with bones on the ground whenever it receives a report, which involves reburying the bones and blocking the exit of the groundhog burrow.

But some visitors are not happy with the situation. Victor Sicuso, who went to the graveyard to visit his son, told Canadian news outlet Global News on Saturday: "People come here to see their loved ones and they find bones and skulls."

There was one golfe -- sorry - gopher that kept ruining the course. Groundkeeper took a hose and filled the gopher's hole with water. I don't recall how that worked out.

I usually kept a couple of good ones for myself..... Stones, Who with Keith Moon and so forth.

It's time to introduce my cousin, Ranger Jim. I've mentioned him previously on D.U. Jim was a stoner: big time.

Now comes the Dylan Rolling Thunder tour. I get floor seats for wife and I and I get Jim, two seats on the side of the stage. Pointer Sisters were warm-up.

Wife and I get into our seats. Kid next to me, pokes me and says, "Right in front of us, It's Rodney Dangerfield." And goddam, it was Rodney in a tux. I guess his plan was to see Dylan and then perform at his club.

Pointer Sisters are over and I get out of my seat and go to where Jim is and, "Look where I am sitting. Rodney D is right in front of --WAIT. Rodney is out of his seat, right there." Rodney starts walking toward us.

Now Ranger Jim has a point-and-shoot camera that he takes out and immediately begins taking pictures of Rodney walking towards us (click) Rodney walking in the corridor (click) Rodney walking past the refreshment stand (click) ---Jim is now like an automaton, He's gonna get the best picture of Rodney that is possible.

--Rodney going into the mens' room (click) Rodney taking a whizz (click).

The guy was right. He got no respect.

I was fortunate to witness where one got into my fenced in garden, before I had put any plants in the ground. Other years I wasn't so lucky. They've also gnawed my herb gardens down to nubs.

If it finds another way in, I'll be setting a live trap. Meanwhile I'm stocking up on Epsom salts to sprinkle around the perimeter of the garden, because they do not like it. Also I've let garlic overgrow parts of the fence line. They also dislike garlic. And I spray the plants with a hot pepper mix. Of course, I have to reapply that, quite often, and have to remember to wash everything, before popping it into my mouth.
