Hillary Clinton PAC prepares to combat the psychotic trolls who harass her online supporters

After nearly a year of being routinely harassed and threatened online by unhinged fans of her primary opponent, supporters of Hillary Clinton are about to see the cavalry arrive. One of the Super PACs supporting her campaign is about to invest a million dollars to combat these trolls and set the record straight whenever they begin willfully spreading misinformation or harassing her supporters – which at this point in the election cycle is a near constant event. For some Hillary fans, the cavalry can’t come quickly enough.

Ask any online supporter of Hillary Clinton and they’ll tell you the same tale: they can’t so much as post a word of support without immediately having it brusquely thrown back in their faces. If they state one of her virtues, it’s combated with a torrent of lies about her. If they post an article documenting one of her good days on the campaign trail, the trolls will respond by making insane false claims and conspiracies about the publication in question.

The trolls in question nearly always claim to be supporters of Bernie Sanders, though it’s never been entirely clear to what extent they actually support him, or to what extent that may be using that claim as mere cover to gain entrance into liberal and democratic circles for the sake of poisoning the water toward Clinton. But the behavior of these supposed Sanders fans has been routinely out of control, with political observers not being able to point to similar behavior from the supporters of any candidate in either party since the internet and social media era began.

Their attacks have come in such coordinated fashion, for instance focusing their attacks on the fan page of one online news outlet at the exact same time of day, not even trying to make their assaults come off as organic in nature. They also often appear to be working from some sort of shared message calendar, routinely shifting en mass from one propaganda phrase to the next, as if someone had suddenly flipped a switch. While it’s never been clear where these psychotic-acting trolls claiming to be acting on behalf of Sanders are actually coming from, the curious nature of their behavior has long evoked questions as to who or what might be pulling their strings.

So it’s not an overwhelming surprise to see a Hillary PAC now launching a coordinated effort to drown out the attacks and misinformation and conspiracies and lies that have been coming so obsessively from the online trolls. When a year long mass-trolling effort is that well-coordinated, sometimes the only way to fight back against it is in equally coordinated fashion.

I'm glad they're going to do something about it. I'm sick of seeing all the lies people spread about her online. Some of it's so vicious and below-the-belt. I can't imagine having to read that stuff about myself, which is one big reason I admire her so much.
