WTF?
"I just don't like to see it be politicized. I think that Secretary Clinton's gun record is a lot more spotty than Bernie's," Jane Sanders, the wife of the Democratic presidential candidate, said in an interview with CNN, after the network cut away from coverage of Clinton's panel in Hartford, Connecticut, that included, among others, the daughter of the principal killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012.
...
Nelba Marquez-Greene, whose daughter was killed at Sandy Hook in 2012, remarked before Sanders' comments that she came to the event "knowing I would be the subject of ridicule and ire, online harassment and abuse and knowing that people would make mean comments like 'Oh there goes Hillary, using those Sandy Hook families.'"

(31,170 posts)who has no kids but is an educator, to the three? i think, women who had direct family connections to gun murders, as well as the politicians and ministers who spoke from the audience, all had heart wrenching stories to share. Hillary served as a moderator for them to speak about the problems, and to talk about the process of finding and implementing real measures to make progress.
It was extraordinary to watch it streaming live. Haven't been able to find a link or transcript.
And to think that anyone is trying to make this a political attack, is disgusting. And so is the abuse these people deal with every day for speaking out for common sense laws.

(1,033 posts)but the more we hear from Mrs. Sanders, the darker his campaign becomes. The longer we go - the worse it becomes across the board, so maybe it's just coincidence.

(51,571 posts)Yep...it's almost like she didn't change a word, just parroted the standard NRA "politicizing gun tragedies is bad" speech. Maybe Bernie should just start stumping for Trump; he's already doing it anyway. Why not just be honest about it?

No one is trying to take guns away. Sensible gun laws need to be in place. WTF is wrong with that?

(1,630 posts)The devastating pain of Sandy Hook massacre of the children and teachers is as fresh today as when it happened. There is nothing any politician or surrogate can do but be absolutely humbled by the heartbreak and courage of the survivors. The ONLY appropriate response is to listen with an open heart and mind and offer comfort. The Sanders family needs more humility and compassion in the face of tragedy and suffering. Their cynicism makes them look all the worse when you have families who you literally cannot hurt any more than they already have been.
They need to stop

(27,813 posts)Why is it unreasonable to ask politicians to take on these challenges? The Sanders have an attribute I see sometimes in people who see everything in huge, broad strokes. It is hard for them to relate to the problems of individuals.

(4,465 posts)I see Sanders as a more global thinker, and we need people like that. Ideas are important.
Moreover, I see Hillary as someone who can put ideas into practice, will plan and maneuver to get as much done as possible when faced with only intransigence from the other side.

Jane is mad because they didn't choose Bernie...she should have learned her lesson after the Daily News headline that began Bernie's big NY fail...this subject will never get them anywhere but further down... He just clinched losing CT.

(297,314 posts)@ team BS thinking this is a good idea.. just like trying to divide the "Southern Voters".. now showing how brainless they are over the grief stricken parents of gun violence who chose Hillary. And, jeeze.. I wonder why? Could it be his dismal voting record on sensible gun laws?
You'd think they could come up with better strategies but no.. not them.

(236 posts)Jane is too protective of her husband to be his political advisor. I have seen her on numerous news interviews and I do not believe a former college president can be as politically disingenuous as she represents herself.
Here is another quote attributed to her in the wake of the New York primary:
"But top Sanders advisers said the senator had no plans to take the pressure off his Democratic rival as long as she keeps up her
critiques of the Vermont senator. 'We have received a lot of innuendo and dismissiveness and demeaning comments from the Clinton campaign - from the secretary herself and from her surrogates,' Jane Sanders, the candidate's wife and a close adviser, said in an interview. "He's not going to sit by and just not respond.'" Wall street Journal April 20, 2016
And this was after Hillary reached out to his campaign in her speech.

(15,369 posts)seeing this. The second was to feel the heartbreak of the SH victims' families at the thought that Jane would so callously misrepresent this meeting.
Perhaps I would be a better human being if I had had the second reaction first. But I am being honest.
I simply cannot imagine Jane Sanders filling the FLOTUS spot and doing us all proud - especially not after the magnificent Michelle Obama. Jane is too blinkered by Bernie and as tone-deaf as he. This incident is a prime example of that.

Whimsey
(236 posts)was responsible for approaching the Vatican for including Bernie in this already scheduled event. He has stated so. Bernie then made it out as if the Pope invited him. That is why there was so much confusion surrounding how it came about. Prof Sachs has a close relationship with the Vatican and they honored his wishes. Don't tell me it wasn't political on Sach's part as he knew this event coincided with the NY primary. He probably thought it would give Bernie a boost. He thought wrong.
