Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumA little perspective on Bernie's "she must earn my support" stance
This is very normal, and no cause for alarm. In fact Hillary said something very similar 8 years ago.

And the earth didn't explode did it?
The media likes to drum up controversy and people get so sucked into the drama that they forget that these things are normal.
Looking back at history, and focusing on data will help alleviate a lot of inner turmoil. Take a breath

He's going to pivot.
He's already toning it down. His latest outrage was that Hillary supports a tax on sodas
and that hurts the 99%
Far cry from the fire breathing rhetoric that she's unqualified for the office.

(129 posts)Soda is cheaper than ever right now, I would be willing to pay 5 extra cents or whatever if the end result is worthy

(3,733 posts)as an example of how he was still attacking lol
It will really tone down after Tuesday.
He knows it's over and if he keeps up the scorched earth rhetoric
he may screw himself of senate committee assignments.
Bluerome
(129 posts)Probably damage him more than the party
griffi94
(3,733 posts)It will leave him looking like and angry selfish
tantrum thrower.
Who would rather wreck it than compromise or not get his way.
If that happens his numbers will really tank because I don't believe the majority
of his supporters are the Bernie or Bust crowd.
Rational reasonable people will leave and all that will be left is the zealots.
You know I just don't thing unreasoning anger is a good basis for a political movement.

(129 posts)I think he made a mistake going scorched earth in NY. Hope and positivity was his real strength. The only way it would have worked would have been to match every negative statement with 5 minutes of explanation of how he was going to make his agenda happen. He needed to explain more and repeat the same lines less
griffi94
(3,733 posts)I like Bernie as well and was glad was in the race.
I remember early on he told a reporter he wasn't going to talk about Hillary
he wanted to talk about his issues.
I'm sure I'll like him again when he goes back to doing that.
Bluerome
(129 posts)He needs to return to that message of togetherness rather than us and them

was a Democrat who amassed 18-million votes by June (she actually won the popular vote due to the half-primary that was held in MI that Obama and others didn't run in).
DINO Sanders is going to be nowhere near that kind of number when this gets wrapped up in June. And the fact that such a big % of his support comes from non-Ds mitigates against him having the same claim to legitimacy as did Hillary in 2008.

(129 posts)It was even more frustrating because Hillary really did have a real argument for staying in

(15,696 posts)I pity those who believe the Clintons don't respect them. Hell, they could buy an island and tell the country to take a flying leap, but they continue to fight against the wingnuts.

(129 posts)Hillary will be fine, it's almost over

One really shouldn't spend so much time speaking in vague terms about what they'd do (on the campaign trail) when they don't really have an actual plan that can be explained in an interview.
I think that hurt him pretty bad.
Bluerome
(129 posts)It was either today or yesterday. I get why she did it- she still needs to put this away next Tuesday, but I also get why it angered Bernie. The fighting can't end soon enough

Then he feathers his Senatorial nest.
I don't see him being as good a sport as Clinton was though. I will put it in writing right now that I think any support he gives her will be tepid, he won't campaign for her, and he will make statements during the General "by mistake" that hurt her. Otherwise I bet he goes back to Vermont and we hear little from him going forward.
Bluerome
(129 posts)he can see reason again as he did for most of the campaign. Losing is painful, so I give him some leeway. We learn more about ourselves in defeat than in victory. We will see what Bernie is really made of now.

(1,359 posts)Bernie Sanders, because his campaign is over already, whether he's still running or not.
I lived through 2008's primary on the losing side, so I know what it's like. It's just too soon to expect the supporters to come around, especially with all the Revolution Media employees hidden among them. I read an article once about ending a campaign, and how for someone who lost, it's almost like the death of a person close to you. We joke, but there really are stages of grief after a dedicated campaign that is unsuccessful.
Just let them work through it, even the anger. Our candidate will become our nominee, so we've got nothing to fret about.
"Win with grace, lose without excuse."
You've got to let people be disappointed and go through the stages. When the RNC convention is over, we'll know who the real enemy is

(4,187 posts)At this point, everything he says sounds deeply sexist to me.
If he didn't want to sound sexist, he should have behaved respectfully from the start (like not shaking his head, huffing and puffing, and waving his hands the entire time she spoke in debates) and refrained from making sexist attacks (like the "unqualified" argument) against her.
Bluerome
(129 posts)It ran contrary to his entire campaign up to that point. It was a 180 at a crucial moment and I think it confused people.
Emotions are high, but all will be fine
