Is it "too soon" to #FeelTheUnity ...

... in light of the fact that so many high-profile names, organizations, and former rivals are starting to rally around our nominee?

Yes, it's too soon. (What are you thinking?!)

No, it's not too soon. (Of course we should celebrate unity!)

Only Bernie supporters should do that. (It's "disgusting" for Hillary supporters to encourage, celebrate and acknowledge unity.)

is that we're being dictated to about how we feel about this win. I can get on board with being civil but don't dare tell me I can't #FeelTheUnity and be happy about doing so.

"#FeelTheBern" slogan, and besides being "disgusting" it's

I'll not link to the original post (as I've seen other posts hidden for so doing) so I'll just quote what this poster had to say in response to my request and prodding for an explanation.

#FeelTheBern has been a cute rallying cry of Sanders supporters and the unofficial campaign slogan. What you Hillary supporters are doing is commandeering it to indicate unity (something that Sanders supporters are not eager to do). Further, it is a haughty expression by HRC supporters that YOU should feel Unity with THEM despite no policy shifts or embrace of progressive causes. So yes, it is disrespectful and rude to misappropriate the term for your use.

So, based on this explanation, it would seem that we're "commandeering" something that (presumably) belongs exclusively to Bernie's fans. And we're being "haughty" for having the nerve to encourage and celebrate unity.

Further, it would appear that any effort so to do is always going to be seen as insincere unless we (apparently) "shift" and "embrace" Bernie's progressive causes.

The whole thing is just weird to me.

Honestly, I can understand that some people aren't ready and still need to lick their wounds (so to speak) ... but the whole notion of chastising others for celebrating unity is odd.

As a personal note, I'd always viewed #FeelTheBern as something that was rather angry, taunting and in-your-face ... and that comes from the words themselves, and how it was used throughout the campaign. Rather than being "cute" (as the poster described) it was aggressive and uninviting.

In my opinion, things like "#FeelTheJoy and #FeelTheUnity are actually an acknowledgement of the ubiquitousness of the phrase and help to reimagine it as something that's positive instead of angry.

@Alerter: Unity is important and it's a valid topic for discussion. No DU member has been named, no post has been linked to. Nobody has been smeared or insulted.

1.) Bernie convincingly endorses Hillary

2.) Hillary is no longer being smeared and attacked on whatever site I am posting on.

If these two things don't occur here on DU by the 16th. Then I will abstain from posting until they are.

I'll try to be patient. Right now, despite what he says, I don't think he even wants to be in the same room with her. I hope that changes.

I think he is driven by deep inner resentment. He needs to get help before it consumes him.

There is no right way to console one who has lost everything he or she thought was important. The messiah won't get to save us all single-handedly from income inequality.

I guess you just leave them alone to work it out for themselves. Everything else looks like gloating to them.
