I never doubted that Hillary Clinton had many talents.
I just didnt know that seamstress was among them.
There were moments in the first Democratic presidential debate on Tuesday night when she threaded the needle as delicately and perfectly as a politician could.
snip//
Sanders said America should look to Denmark. Clinton countered: We are not Denmark. I love Denmark. We are the United States of America.
Even when she was confronted anew by her vote in the Senate long ago to authorize the invasion of Iraq, she was neither defiant nor apologetic, steering a smooth midcourse by recalling that at debates in 2008, Barack Obama had attacked her for that. After the election, she pointed out, he asked me to become secretary of state. He valued my judgment.
The subject of Iraq caused her less grief than Sanders suffered on gun control, when not only Clinton but also Martin OMalley, the former Maryland governor, rejected his explanation of votes in the Senate against various bills and his insistence that he was representing rural areas with gun cultures, not a nationwide electorate. It was clumsy because he presents himself as a creature of pure principle, immune to political convenience.
But on Tuesday night an odd sort of role reversal occurred. For much of the debate, Sanders somehow came across as the embattled incumbent, targeted by the other four candidates, while Clinton came across as the energetic upstart.

(16,104 posts)Could it be 'the haters' are backing off?
NY Times back to 'liberal tool for Hillary'?
Apparently, the corporate M$M has no problem with flip-flopping when the political winds blow...just no one else gets to.
Walk away
(9,494 posts)when they have to endorse Hillary in the general.
Using lies and smears to sell papers is starting to come back and bite them on their gray lady's ass!

(16,104 posts)The Republican leadership "let the cat out of the bag" revealing the Benghazi Committee was an accomplishment, "Look at Hillary's poll numbers."
In the emails themselves, there is nothing there.
Hillary is before the Benghazi Committee next week, but Hillary will surely perform a coup de grace!
Fox and Republican nut jobs will never drop it, but I think "enough with the damn emails" expressed the sentiment of most Americans.

(28,270 posts)bigtime. I bet that's the best debate performance of her life, much better than when she was running against President Obama.
Cha
(298,568 posts)sweet to have it confirmed so spectacularly.
That's why I keep posting all these rave reviews.
This is Hillary's time and 7 years ago was Obama's. I love them both now.

(28,270 posts)Its all coming together for Hillary. The damn republicans can't stop her and she is going to save America from dangerous buffoons like Trump or Carson!

(213 posts)Imagine this: Hillary in a room with Vladimir Putin; now see Bernie Sanders.
Hillary at the United Nations addressing the Security Council; now see Donald Trump
Hillary consoling mourners after a tragedy; now picture Carly Fiorina
Hillary serving food in a soup kitchen on Thanksgiving Day; now envision Jeb Bush
Hillary giving a State of the Union address; now see Marco Rubio (not enough water)
Hillary at the G-7 with Prime Minister Cameron, President Hollande, Chancellor Merkel and others
now imagine Ben Carson
I could go on and on, but it just seems so obvious.
GO HILLARY!!.
(I don't have any cute graphics. Where would I find them?)

(23,149 posts)To suggest that the US could learn something from, another country does not suggest that we are that country. Just a cheap shot pandering to patriots. I like Clinton, but that should have been beneath her.
Cha
(298,568 posts)You have critiques.. there's the whole rest of the board.
Thank you.

(49,664 posts)another system of government is better. Don't know if that makes me a "true patriot" by your standards.

(23,149 posts)...I acknowledge the reality. Same goes for the mandatory "God bless America." To me, the civility shown by the Democratic debaters was far more significant proof of patriotism than empty gestures.

(51,122 posts)I didn't expect her to lose or even lose ground. This was a wonderful surprise.
She got huge applause at the Democratic watching party I was at last night. There were about 200 of us. The Senator Sanders supporters were a little subdued by the end.
She's doing great. Can't wait until the next debate.
Cha
(298,568 posts)night for Hillary supporters. She did us so proud!
Thanks for the post, Cha. You've brought me one giant step closer to supporting Hillary. Will now join this group to keep me up to date with fellow DUers who do. The negative stuff is starting to wear mighty thin lately! Between this and the BOG, I'm sure I'll feel lots better!
Blessings.
Cha
(298,568 posts)Yeah, the negative stuff is so overrated. Who needs it?
I see you saw this article pointing out how she embraced President Obama last night.. I was so glad!

(5,376 posts)She will be an awesome president who'll get lots of positive things done for our country as she continues to carry out President Obama's policies. Really counting on getting a progressive Congress to back her up. Yes!

(12,165 posts)Was great watching Hillary be Hillary. She comes across as far more presidential than everyone else in the field.
I was impressed with O'Malley's close. I could see him in the administration.

(9,075 posts)I am still in Bernie's corner, but Hillary would make a fine President.
She was smooth, tough, funny, and knowledgeable. Hard to beat.
