Bill de Blasio on Morning Joe announcing his support for Hillary (HRC Group)

Last edited Fri Oct 30, 2015, 08:09 AM - Edit history (1)

Strong statement supporting Hillary. He is talking about who she has been all along. Supporting her and her policies. Of course Mika is trying to make it about why he took so long to endorse rather than why he endorses her. And Joe is trying to talk him out of his support for Hillary by fake complimenting de Blasio as being authentic so how can he support Hillary. The mayor is fighting back and not taking the bait that other Dems who come on that show take. Trying to get him to agree that Hillary is a flip flopper even while he is endorsing him. But de Blasio is standing his ground. He says Hillary has a "sharp progressive platform."

He stuck to his guns and said great things about Hillary. Basically backing up her statement that she is a progressive who gets things done.

8. It would have been pretty astounding if he didn't eventually come around.

After all, he ran her Senate campaign. And both she and her husband donated money and time to help get him elected. Given their support for him, he was a bit churlish with his attention seeking delaying.

Now he's regarded as the guy who came very late to the party. Oh well, better late than never.

From NYT:

Mrs. Clinton did not appear on the program. Nor did she issue a personal statement about Mr. de Blasio. Instead, the Clinton campaign emailed a note to reporters calling the mayor’s support “a sign of the campaign’s continued momentum.”

The note added, “The Clinton campaign will also announce that an additional 85 mayors from across the country will endorse her today.”

The circumstances of Mr. de Blasio’s endorsement on Friday were a sign of the reduced level of interest in his presidential preferences since he initially denied Mrs. Clinton his blessing in April. His public vacillation began in political prime-time, a bold declaration during a high-profile interview on “Meet the Press.”

By this week, Mr. de Blasio’s six-month delay in issuing an endorsement was viewed in political circles as quixotic at best. Virtually every leading Democrat in New York has already thrown their support behind Mrs. Clinton, along with leading liberal Democrats like Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio.

But the mayor’s vow of neutrality was initially taken as a liberal line in the sand, part of Mr. de Blasio’s effort to kick-start a national movement to nudge presidential contenders toward the left.

Instead of being a centerpiece endorsement, now he's just one of eighty six mayors endorsing her today.

Work on health care and did not accept Joe's remarks. Hillary has been an advocate for working Americans for a long time.
