(9,967 posts)It's hard for me to believe that adults feel this way aboyt anyone, esp a politician.
To me, the only one who's has something approaching sainthood is Jimmy Carter, and no other politician comes close to him. Not Sanders, not Hillary, or anyone else.
But even PJC is a man human with flaws like anyone else.

The only way he can avoid this is by not getting the nomination -then he can continue to grow in people's fantasies, asking themselves "what if".
Unless he -as I suspect he will- starts a new, very lucrative career touring the country giving speeches

(1,019 posts)Progressives exhibit the same disdain for actual democracy that Tea Partiers do, mostly because they know that 1) they're a minority of voters and 2) they're terrible at outreach and compromise so they never end up in the majority. Look at how progressives have tried to invalidate the votes of minorities, or basically anyone that has voted for Clinton. "Those states go red in the general election." So what? Democrats are Democrats in every state, and they ALL get a voice in choosing the nominee.
Sanders himself is arguing that pledged delegates, chosen by the will of the people in state contests, should ignore their people if those people picked Clinton, and cast their delegate ballots for Sanders instead. How is that democratic??
It's infuriating that the one candidate arguing that the people should be ignored so he can get more delegates is considered the one with more "integrity." Has that word lost all meaning?
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)I might take issue with your use of the "progressive" label, however. Millions of Democrats consider themselves to be progressive or have progressive sympathies.
They wouldn't consider themselves to be "revolutionaries" like many in the Berner camp, however.

(28,270 posts)Its amazing when Bernie loses an election, that's not democracy in action, its wild conspiracy theories, dirty tricks etc.
If it even looks like its going to be close, they start up BS trying to muddy the waters ahead of time like they are doing right now in NY and California.
And they write off whole sections of the United States insultingly calling them "Confederate states" among other slurs.

If you are in a place where you are worshiping someone, then you should realize that you mean nothing to that person and they will do nothing for you regardless of how much you worship them.
Then when they fall, you will fall too.
No worshiping from here!

They wonder why we are not convinced by the whole of it. As an atheist reminds me of people trying to convert me, while they are so sure of God, or Allah, or Jupiter, and so on....
Or a guy trying to convince me of dating, or sex, but I am not buying, but they keep insisting.
Just something wrong... and not convincing at all... the opposite... you just want to run far away.
Who has a right to what I consider in my brain? Who the heck they think they are?

This characterizing of him as some kind of Superior Being - when he is every bit as human and fallible as Hillary (those stories have not yet been publicized to anywhere near the same extent) - does not sit well. At all.

(15,445 posts)and believe it should be called out, if we genuinely want a progressive movement to be at the forefront of this election cycle.

(41,960 posts)Don't read anything into that. It's just far, far harder to be a real, flawed human being like Sanders (and we all) has to be, because sooner or later you're going to disappoint those who need to project godhood onto you. That's why martyrs are so eternal and influential. They get to go out before that happens.
I'd love to know what Bernie's actual feelings about the fanatical among his followers are. I wouldn't want that kind of problem for the world.
