Israel on Wednesday expressed “deep disappointment” over El Salvador, Peru and Chile's decision a day earlier to recall their ambassadors for consultations in protest against Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip.

Foreing Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor issued a statement saying that the move “constitutes encouragement for Hamas, a group recognized as a terror organization by many countries around the world.”

El Salvador Recalls its Ambassador in Israel
Published 30 July 2014

The Central American nation's decision follows the same decision taken recently by Ecuador, Brazil, Chile and Peru.

The government of El Salvador announced on Wednesday it is recalling their Ambassador in Israel, in response to the ongoing Israeli invasion of Gaza. It is now the fifth Latin American country to take the measure, condemning the violent attacks on the people of Palestine.

The Foreign Relations Ministry of El Salvador released a statement, explaining that “the measure has been taken as a response to the worrying escalation of violence and the indiscriminate bombing by Israel over the Gaza Strip."

The statement highlights the fact that Israeli bombings “have caused the deaths of chilren, women and men, as well as hundreds of injured and the displacement of thousands of Palestinian citizens which have been ejected from their homes."

The Central American country is now the fifth Latin American nation to take such a measure. On previous days, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Brazil have done the same. Venezuela and Bolivia suspended their diplomatic relations with Israel, Brazil froze them.
