State-security services arrested at least 22 people on Saturday in Venezuela, as 10,000 protestors took to the streets of Caracas to demand the release of political prisoners, with similar demonstrations taking place in another 10 major cities across the country.+
Among the detained in Maracaibo, Zulia State, was Televisa journalist Henry Villasmil. Video evidence shows officers of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) assaulting Villasmil and knocking him to the ground. According to local NGO Venezuelan Penal Forum, the reporter was released soon afterwards.+

Saturdays protests were convened by opposition leader Leopoldo López, who was jailed in February 2014 for allegedly inciting violence during anti-government demonstrations.+
In late May, López and his fellow prisoner, former Mayor of San Cristóbal Daniel Ceballos, announced a hunger strike until all of Venezuelas dozens of political prisoners are released.+
