Glenn Greenwald: US Determined to Control Venezuela's Oil
Published 18 November 2015
Journalist Glenn Greenwald says the United States has again stepped over the line in spying on Venezuela, violating their sovereignty.
Newly revealed U.S. espionage against Venezuelan state oil firm PDVSA violated the South American nation's sovereignty, journalist Glenn Greenwald said Wednesday, adding that Washington is determined to take control of Venezuelas resources.
Speaking to teleSUR, Greenwald slammed the espionage as an invasion of Venezuela's rights. However, he also pointed out Venezuelans aren't the only ones impacted by Washington's spying, arguing U.S. citizens themselves have lost much of their privacy online.
He continued by stating revelations of U.S. spying showed Washington is determined to take control of Venezuela's oil resources.
Greenwald currently works with The Intercept.
In a joint investigation, teleSUR and The Intercept revealed earlier Wednesday the U.S. National Security Agency had infiltrated PDVSA's internal communications network, and was spying on top company figures.

(14,732 posts)World wide oil glut. Crude at under $40 a bbl (before Iranian production hits the market). US producing more oil itself than ever. Venezuelan crude is so low quality (one step above tar) that it can only be made usable with expensive additional refining in the U.S. Yep, I imagine we're just wetting our pants over trying to seize it.

(14,732 posts)that the U.S. is planning on 'controlling Venezuela's oil'?

(6,282 posts)I only meant to clear up that commodity and oil prices are cyclical with significant volatility, so making an argument about (arguably) present strategizing based on the present profitability is short-sighted.
