The president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, said his government would be willing to re-establish diplomatic relations with the U.S. if it respects the nation’s sovereignty.

Bolivian President Evo Morales reiterated Monday evening that his country is willing to resume relations with the United States if it complies with the basic rules of respect of national sovereignty.

The Bolivian leader expressed a willingness to restore bilateral relations on the condition the U.S. does not “conspire against us like they have done in the past. And that they fulfill international norms of mutual respect.”

Morales went on to note that “as long as there is transparency and respect there will be no problem with reinstalling embassies in their respective capitals.”

Morales issued his comments after his administration accused the United States earlier this month of helping finance the “No” campaign in the referendum on his right to re-election.
