Fujimori Widens Lead in Peru President Race After Rivals Barred

Former legislator has had at least 30% support for 2 years
Peru's electoral board barred two rival candidates last week
Former congresswoman Keiko Fujimori widened her lead in Perus presidential race after two rivals were barred from running, a poll showed.
Fujimori had 32 percent of voter intentions in an Ipsos Peru poll published Sunday by Lima-based newspaper El Comercio, compared with 30 percent last month.
Julio Guzman, who had 18 percent support in last months poll, was disqualified last week by Perus electoral board, who said his party didnt follow procedures for nominating him candidate. Cesar Acuna, who had 6 percent in last months poll, was also disqualified last week.
The removal of two candidates a month before the April 10 vote has boosted support for Fujimoris rivals. Pedro Pablo Kuczynski rose to 14 percent from 9 percent while Alfredo Barnechea and Veronika Mendoza both increased to 9 percent from 4 percent.
