  • Former legislator has had at least 30% support for 2 years

  • Peru's electoral board barred two rival candidates last week

Former congresswoman Keiko Fujimori widened her lead in Peru’s presidential race after two rivals were barred from running, a poll showed.

Fujimori had 32 percent of voter intentions in an Ipsos Peru poll published Sunday by Lima-based newspaper El Comercio, compared with 30 percent last month.

Julio Guzman, who had 18 percent support in last month’s poll, was disqualified last week by Peru’s electoral board, who said his party didn’t follow procedures for nominating him candidate. Cesar Acuna, who had 6 percent in last month’s poll, was also disqualified last week.

The removal of two candidates a month before the April 10 vote has boosted support for Fujimori’s rivals. Pedro Pablo Kuczynski rose to 14 percent from 9 percent while Alfredo Barnechea and Veronika Mendoza both increased to 9 percent from 4 percent.
