"The circumstances surrounding the killing of Moncada Gómez's are under debate by the Venezuelan regime and the opposition. Some officials in President Nicolas Maduro's regime accused opposition protesters of carrying out the killing, while some in the opposition blamed "colectivos," or "collectives" -- a term used to describe civilian pro-government groups, some which have taken up arms against the political opposition.
"The incident occurred at nighttime on Wednesday ... when the man was traveling on Avenida Páez de El Paraíso in Caracas and was intercepted by several people who were on a barricade; Moncada Gómez tried to flee, so he was shot and stripped of his belongings," the Public Ministry said in a statement."

*Some background on "colectivos". They are motorcycle riding, young, pro government thugs (similar to the SA leading up to WW2) who are well armed, trained and paid for by the Venezuelan government to harass and intimidate any person they think is a threat to the Bolivarian Revolution. Maduro et alli, claims that no such groups even exists, let alone are they affiliated with Chavismo. One of their methods of operation is to rob and seek violence (at night) upon anyone who they think might have anything of value that can be bartered or pawned. (The Bolivar is worthless. You need a suitcase of them to buy an arepa). Venezuelan citizens who are tired of this have taken to stringing wire across the roads at night to extract a measure of "justice"against them.
