New Bat Species Are Found in Panama and Ecuador

Panama, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) reported today on the discovery of two species of bats of the Molossidae family in Panama and Ecuador.

According to STRI, the species are the Freeman and Waorani, known as dog-faced bats.

The experts of the entity based in the Panamanian capital found the Freeman (Cynomops freemani) in Gamboa, a rainforest bordering the city.

The Smithsonian explained in a statement that these bats are rarely observed, as they fly high in the night sky and do so faster than others because of their extremely narrow wings.
