Domestic Violence Survivors Won't Get Asylum In The U.S. Anymore, & Just SMH

Domestic Violence Survivors Won't Get Asylum In The U.S. Anymore, & Just SMH
By Chelsea Stewart 10 min ago

There's a new rule about to be enforced in the United States, and I need all of you guys to listen up 'cause it's pretty serious. (Please and thank you.) Domestic violence survivors won't get asylum in the U.S. anymore, thanks to the Trump administration's new rule, and it's a decision that could affect tens of thousands of people, especially women, who are fleeing from Central America in search of protection. Yeah, IK — it's another example of just how bad 2018 sucks.

According to The Hill, the decision — which also affects those seeking refuge from gang violence — was announced on Monday, June 11 by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has often sought to use his authority over immigration courts to restructure the rules on who's eligible for asylum. What makes it worse is that an increasing amount of women and children are applying for asylum amid surging levels of violent crime in Central America. However, Sessions seemingly doesn't believe that's enough, as he told immigration judges in Washington D.C. that the asylum system was being “abused to the detriment of the rule of law."

“Generally, claims by aliens pertaining to domestic violence or gang violence perpetrated by non-governmental actors will not qualify for asylum,” Sessions continued in his decision. He added,

The mere fact that a country may have problems effectively policing certain crimes — such as domestic violence or gang violence — or that certain populations are more likely to be victims of crime, cannot itself establish an asylum claim.

Trump Admin Drops Asylum Protections For Domestic Violence Victims
June 11, 2018 at 1:42 pm

(CNN) — The Trump administration Monday overturned asylum protections for domestic violence victims in a decision that could affect thousands of asylum seekers from Central America.

The move from Attorney General Jeff Sessions specifically addresses domestic violence victims from Central America and ruled that a 2014 Board of Immigration Appeals decision protecting such women was wrongly decided. But it will have broader implications for any victims of crime or violence in countries that can’t or won’t protect them — a rampant issue in Central America and beyond.

Sessions’ decision sets a high bar for victims of crime to qualify for asylum protections. Not only must the government of the home country be unable or unwilling to help the victims, Sessions ruled, but “the applicant must show that the government condoned the private actions or demonstrated an inability to protect the victims.”

The ruling and announcement is the latest evidence of Sessions taking full advantage of his authority over the immigration courts — a separate court system designed by law to be under the auspices of the Justice Department. The attorney general functions as a one-person Supreme Court in the system, in addition to hiring and evaluating the lower court judges themselves.

You remember Southern Baptist Minister and recently, all too recently, former seminary president Paige Patterson.

He felt that the Bible is clear that women must not divorce. So not recognizing the danger to a woman who has been abused and denying them asylum is just par for the course with these goons.
