August 1, 2018.- "For years no cleaning has been done in the corridor through which the transmission line goes, preventive maintenance is not done," said Feraelec president Ángel Navas.

The lack of maintenance, and not the sabotage, is the cause of the blackout that surprised Caracas on Tuesday, July 31, said Angel Navas, president of Fetraelec.



"For years, no cleaning has been done in the corridor through which the transmission line goes, preventive maintenance is not done" in the area where the towers are supported, Navas said in statements to Union Radio.

Because mud, moss and other elements are the protections of the system act "seeing that there is an overcurrent," said the union leader.

"More than 80% of the thermal generation is disabled at this time because no maintenance plan is generated, we have three or four years that a maintenance plan has not been made to the generation plants, transmission lines or distribution", criticized Navas.

The blackout that occurred on Tuesday, August 31, the city of Caracas was the result of "sabotage," said President Nicolás Maduro.
