Dominican Republic earthquake: Whole island SHAKING as 5.2-magnitude quake STRIKES TERRIFIED locals


TERRIFIED locals and tourists said the whole island shook when a huge 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck the Dominican Republic and Haiti in the early hours of this morning.

The earthquake struck just three kilometres from Villa Elisa, with a depth of 14km, at 5.45am UTC this morning (6.45am BST).

An estimated 4.0 million people live in the area affected by the quake, with locals and tourists send into a frenzied panic.

Santiago - some 80km from the earthquake's centre - was ome of the key areas where the tremor was felt.

A USGS map shows a number of reports of shaking in the Santiago area.
