Poorest country in hemisphere (Venezuela) has the highest cost for passport

As of today, passports must be paid in Petros. To the Venezuelans abroad, $200 and an extension $100

05-Nov-18. The Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, announced that within the framework of the new financial structure of the country, as of November 1 the issuance and extension of passports must be charged in Petros.

Rodriguez said that from October 8 to November 1 the cost of passports issued in Venezuela will be 7 thousand 200 sovereign bolivars (Bs.S) and the extension will cost Bs.S 3 thousand 600.

She explained that, as of November 1, passports will be charged in Petros and the cost for the issuance of a new passport will be two (2) petros and for the extension will be one (1) petro.

As for Venezuelans residing abroad, the issuance of the passport will cost $200 and while the extension will cost $100.

After November 1, the issue will cost two (2) petros and the extension (1) petro.

The decision was taken at a meeting held by order of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, with the Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace, Néstor Reverol and the director of the Administrative Service of Identification, Migration and Aliens (Saime) , Gustavo Vizcaíno, said the vice president.
