Kerry in the Cabinet is good news for a improved Cuba policy

* I received this on an email list - Kerry went after USAID aid abusers.

If rumors are confirmed, and Senators John Kerry and Chuck Hagel join Obama’s cabinet, the President would have constant access to the advice of two of the most respected, pragmatic and level-headed leaders when it comes to Cuba policy. Kerry has been critical of badly designed programs such as the one which landed Alan Gross in jail and a strong advocate of a common-sense approach including unencumbered family visits and people-to-people contacts: “I warmly applaud the President’s decision to allow more Americans to travel to Cuba. These measures, expanding people-to-people relations between the United States and Cuba and allowing Americans to send funds to Cubans for private economic activity, open the way for the good will of citizens of both countries to forge deeper ties that are in our national interest today and in the future. This is an important step. If governments cannot solve the problems between them, at least they should get out of the way and let citizens work toward finding solutions.

and the ban on travel for all Americans.

I can't wait until the right-wing dirtbags finally have NO way to keep spewing their lies about Cuba since travel to Cuba for ordinary U.S. Americans will be completely within reach, anytime, and anyone can find out the truth for him/herself, and the spinners will be outed publically everywhere for the seedy, slimy liars that they are.

Or Chuck Hagel or Dick Lugar for that matter, moderate Repubs who have favored open relations with Cuba for a long time. Never got that vibe from Susan Rice, or even Hillary. Hillary even said during the 08 campaign that she supported Bush's policies on Cuba, which is why she would not have gotten my vote in 08 had she won the primary, and she won't get my vote if she runs again unless she makes her position clear on this issue.

and she's caught up in the expatriate grudge match via her brother's wife - who someone here said is from Venezuela, but I believe she is described as a right wing Cuban American lawyer. They live in Miami.
