The country has been suffering from violent, fascist, racist power mad "leaders" since the 1940's, and a long, filthy history of assassinations of progressive politicians, and a totally corrupt military serving at the behest of powerful landowners, their gangster politicians, and US-corporate/military interests which always served those using Colombia's natural resources and cheap, impoverished labor force.
