It's really great to hear him talk about our country's reputation...as a democracy...around the world and how (or whether) we get our act together at home has an effect on that. Fixing our economy, money in elections and the confidence in our elections, and how our government works based on facts...or doesn't.

This speech is 'President' Kerry pointing the country in the direction we need to go. I think I'm going to have to buy another C-Span DVD ...

Senator Kerry made me cry right along with him. Massachusetts will be a sadder and poorer place without him representing us.

Boston.com politics editor Glen Johnson is resigning to take a post as a senior State Department adviser, working for John F. Kerry.

Johnson, 50, a 27-year journalism veteran who has covered five presidential elections, said his focus would be on strategic communications.

“This is an unexpected opportunity. All I’ve ever wanted to do ¬since junior high school – and have done professionally – is be a news reporter. But this chance to serve the country and Secretary Kerry at such a tumultuous time, as well as work in foreign affairs and travel the world, was too compelling an opportunity to pass up,” said Johnson, a native of Andover who now lives in North Andover.

Kerry, the senior senator from Massachusetts, was confirmed Tuesday as secretary of state.

“I think the world of Glen and the path he’s traveled as a shoe leather reporter in the best sense of the word,” Kerry said. “I know it was not an easy decision for him to turn a page after thirty years of journalism for a chapter in public service, but he does so for the same reasons he became a journalist in the first place. He’s not a partisan. He just cares about the quality of our dialogue and he cares about our country and he’ll contribute to both of them. I’ll be lucky to have him at my side in this endeavor.”

17. Rather a shock to me when you think of the many times he was awful to Kerry

and that he had as much criticism of Brown as you might have a poorly trained but adorable maltese - rarely held accountable for anything he did wrong, except when it totally crossed a line.

Obviously another case where Kerry could put things behind him that I can't imagine many could.

18. Very late response. Whats got me in that adress

is that, first, he talk about things I thought he wanted to express since maybe years, surch as his powerfull remarks of money which corrupts politics. I could just bow at him completly. I hope one day campaings would be less found b y privates groups than public financial, such as how is it here in France.

On the more personal parts, the fact that got me is that he didnt only became emotional recalling Kennedy broters, he also was moved in his recalls of 1971 protest, especially speaking about Nixon trying to kick out the vets from the Mall. It echoes in me. He maybe remembered the harassment he faced afterwards by US god vernment. Having being myself , as a part of an activist group, under Sarkozys tenure, arrested on false accusation and even put before a judge ( it was a plot made on purpouse to make some of us shut up about social issues, like false unemployement rate numbers, homelessness and unconstitutionnaly disrespect of housing right and more) I just can imagine how it would had been hard to feel betrayed, misunderstood, and willingly unheard when you just wants to move the contry for the better and speakk out the truth.
