Starbucks illegally refused to bargain with Northwest stores, labor board says

Starbucks Corp. (Nasdaq: SBUX) illegally refused to bargain in good faith with unionized baristas in 21 stores in Washington and Oregon, according to a complaint filed Tuesday by the National Labor Relations Board prosecutors.

The complaint against the Seattle coffee giant includes the recently shuttered store at 101 Broadway in Seattle. A hearing with an NLRB administrative law judge is set for June 27.

The charges add to a growing list of complaints the labor board has filed against Starbucks, which include allegations the company has used union-busting tactics. About 270 of Starbucks' 9,000 company-operated U.S. stores have voted to unionize. The company has largely denied any wrongdoing.

"We have come to the table time after time prepared to bargain in good faith and continue to urge (Starbucks union) Workers United to uphold their promises to our partners by moving the bargaining process forward," a Starbucks spokesperson said in an email.
