Why is ShutdownSTEM trending?

I can't tell anymore if a page or movement is legit or some creation of the right.

https://twitter.com/hashtag/ShutdownStem?src=hashtag_click

Trending with https://twitter.com/hashtag/ShutDownAcademia?src=hashtag_click

And with https://twitter.com/hashtag/Strike4BlackLives?src=hashtag_click

Any thoughts?

1. One day.

Shutting down classes, labs, etc in order to discuss changes in academic circles that are more inclusive of AA.

4. Academia, I get. But wonder, why STEM specifically?

STEM is underrepresented with women and POC but so are so many other areas of study.

Just really interested because I'm in STEM education and work with POC and underserved populations, pretty much full-time.

3. Thank you! I went to the link and got an "unsafe site" sort of message.

A one-day strike seems like a good idea, I guess.
Odd, though, because I work precisely on STEM with members of the NSBE, the National Society of Black Engineers and Oakland High School age students.
