Thank you President Obama
Without your health care legislation to attack, MO's elected body could have done some serious damage to public education.
Missouri's Republican-led Legislature has ended its 2012 session with a defiant stance against President Barack Obama's health care policies, but without passing several education initiatives.
Lawmakers sent the governor a bill Friday stating that employers can refuse to provide health insurance for birth control. They also referred to the ballot a measure barring creation of a health insurance exchange unless authorized by state law or a subsequent vote of the people. Both measures target Obama health care policies.
The session ended at 6 p.m. without approval of a pair of education bills. One would have allowed the state to more quickly intervene in unaccredited school districts. Another would have relaxed seniority rules when teacher layoffs are needed.
The Legislature is not scheduled to meet in regular session again until January.
