Fukushima to kick off production of green hydrogen for use in Tokyo

FUKUSHIMA – Tokyo Gov. Yoichi Masuzoe and his Fukushima counterpart, Masao Uchibori, signed an agreement Tuesday on joint research into green ways to produce hydrogen. Fuel made this way will be supplied to Tokyo by the time of the 2020 Olympics.



Hydrogen is regarded as a clean energy source as it produces no carbon dioxide when burned. However, carbon dioxide is emitted during the production process because fossil fuel is burned to provide energy. Wind and solar power will be explored as alternatives.

Speaking to reporters at the Fukushima Prefectural Office, Masuzoe said Tokyo hopes the Olympics will utilize hydrogen produced with Fukushima technology. Uchibori said it would show the world that the region has sprung back following the 2011 disaster...snip
