3/4 Of SW Floridians Believe Warming Is Real; 1 City In Region Has Preparedness Plan

Three quarters of Southwest Floridians believe climate change is happening, and most worry about it, according to a pioneering survey released Wednesday by the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.

Although national attitudes have been widely studied and reported, the nonprofit’s survey is the first region-specific research of its kind, said president and CEO Rob Moher. Residents care and want to see concrete action, with seven in 10 residents concerned about climate change, and three quarters of them observing more severe weather in recent years, results showed.

“(Hurricane) Irma was our wake-up call,” Moher said. That’s why the Naples-based nonprofit commissioned the survey to gauge the depth of local knowledge and interest in finding solutions. Results showed the disaster greatly increased local concern about climate change and spurred the desire to prepare for its impacts.

EDIT

One interesting thing is how many residents believe the government should be responsible for protecting people from climate change's impact, said Jennifer Roberts, of the nonprofit ecoAmerica. "The results are surprising looking at demographics of Southwest Florida," she said. "There's been a partisan divide on it in the past which we had noticed nationally is narrowing ... 84 percent want communities to prepare, and two thirds said the government is the one that needs to help protect people."

What about Andrew, Charlie, Dennis, Jean, Ivan, Katrina, Wilma, etc? If it doesn’t hit Marco Island, I guess it doesn’t happen

life. I can tell you most people do believe in climate change. For those of us that have lived here for any stretch of time, can tell you our winters are much shorter and summer is about 9 months of the year. I am far from rich, many are though.
The rich voted for him, due to economic policies. The poor that voted for him, I believe are brainwashed, as with everywhere.

They are caught up in an emotional attachment to their favorite candidate, enamored of the fake personalities, the glamorous celebrity appearance and the entertaining stage shows. The actual policies and the party platform which is detrimental to their own well being is not a deciding factor in who they vote for.
