Local wolf pack wiped out by hunter

Many in the Sooke area are heartbroken that a wolf pack that no one was complaining about was wiped out.

FOR MORE THAN A YEAR, naturalist and wildlife researcher Gary Schroyen followed the activities of five wolves that ranged around Metchosin and East Sooke.

In many ways, images captured on Schroyen’s wildlife cameras demonstrated that the pack, which he named the Meteask wolf pack, could live harmoniously among humans.

Most area residents were unaware of the proximity of the wolves, which lived on deer and small mammals, and Scott Norris of the BC Conservation Officer Service confirmed that there have been no reports of the pack killing pets or livestock.
...

The wolves were apparently trapped by trophy hunter Jacine Jadresko of Victoria, who goes by the name of the Inked Huntress and hunts animals around the world.

Five wolves killed just because this woman wanted to. Sadly, there are few laws, if any, protecting wolves in BC.

They could have blood bath orgies smearing animal blood on each other after the kill.

I been think about this after the wolf slaughter in Wisconsin... the DNR tracks and collars the wolves, locates dens etc. I wonder if their studying activities give away the location of wolf dens to hunters

This guy Schroyen for instance was he posting pics and videos online or revealing the location of the wolves unintentionally?

I used to support hunting, but don't anymore. Unless animals actively threaten us (bears, cougars, etc.) it should be discouraged. There are few areas where there are enough wild animals to hunt. Our land is their home and we keep displacing them.

on the left is a woods with deer ... all the spring wildflowers, native shrubs, and small trees
are gone and on the right is the exact same forest that the deer have been fenced out of
and you can see they don't eat ferns.

BTW on the left you will not have wood thrush, box turtles, and lots of other critters.

You will not have this too. (VA Bluebells and Trillium now this will be like that for about 1 week to 10 days
but it is amazing to see)

Deer populations went down.
I agree that suburban areas can have a problem with deer and would not be too outraged at allowing some deer populations to be hunted 'for food' because we have no way with our explosive growth to allow for balance. But, I am completely against trophy/sport hunting of any kind.
