Eco-Warriors Deflating SUV Tires

This practice has now spread to NYC and other U.S. cities. It started in the UK:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10589245/New-vigilante-eco-group-targets-SUVs-UK-deflates-HUNDREDS-tyres.html

New eco-vigilantes who let down SUV tyres have been targeting ELECTRIC 4x4s and leaving notes lecturing their owners about climate change
EXCLUSIVE: Electric car owners tell MailOnline they were targeted by eco mob
A group calling themselves The Tyre Extinguishers launched anti-SUV campaign
Eco mob claim they targeted hundreds of SUVs and let the air out of their tyres

They brand SUVs as a 'climate disaster' and say they create 'racist air pollution'
Three police forces confirmed they are investigating criminal damage offences
Were you targeted by Tyre Extinguishers? Email katie.feehan@mailonline.co.uk

Now it's in NY (and other major U.S. cities) but the only outlet covering the story is Rupert Murdoch's Post, which I will not link to for ethical reasons.

Their aim is to wipe out the SUV. Here are some snips from the Post story (yes, I had to take a shower after clicking there).

The Tyre Extinguishers — which started in the UK, hence the spelling — claimed late Wednesday to have so far hit more than 5,000 SUVs in at least eight countries with “more planned.”

The group said that in addition to the nearly 40 vehicles targeted late last month on the Upper East Side, at least 20 SUVs were hit in Chicago, another 20 in Scranton, Pa., and 12 in the San Francisco area. It has openly called for help in Los Angeles, too.

Their message:

I don't support keying these vehicles--that's just vandalism. But I must say, an experience like this is enough to make someone think twice about their next vehicle.

1. Read the last line in their statement; appears they oppose all personal vehicles

(Drivng a hybrid or electric ? These are still polluting, dangerous, and cause congestion. See more on our website)

How exactly does an SUV cause congestion that other body styles don't?

More of a sports sedan kind of person.

How do SUV cause more congestion than other body styles?

I didn't say anything about congestion.

However, if that is an issue for you, the answer to that is the body style is not aerodynamic.

Since you are from Michigan I will give you a little background. Many decades ago I was an executive with an American manufacturer (first female exec in the auto industry). I recall Ford's van being re-styled to be aerodynamic. It actually was a beautiful design, if you're into car design. I recall when I saw the drawings in a meeting that we were told it would be 10 years in the making, because at that time (and maybe it still is) there is such a long lead time in designing a vehicle for production.

Then SUVs came along.

I'm like, WTF? What are we DOING?

And it's all because SUVs were sold to the American consumer market as making them look "rugged" and "tough" and "sporty."

Apparently suburbanites who drive to the city have the need to let everyone think they are climbing mountains on the weekend.

With such a body style you get poorer fuel mileage; I'm sure I don't have to point that out to a MichMan. Poorer fuel mileage means more pollution put into the air. For every mile we drive, we put out a pound of pollution. I hope that has improved, but that is the figure at one time.

Personally, I need to haul around garden tools, plants, etc., in my "retirement" job as a school garden director. I drive a station wagon that is aerodynamically designed, much like the Ford van I described in the second paragraph.

10. Its not a red herring. It was directly in the statement by the Tyre Extinguishers

Even if they are hybrid or electric they cause congestion I merely asked how ?

I dont know why people like SUV either, but they do. All of them meet NHTSA and EPA requirements or they couldn't be sold.

They still don't deserve to have their tires flattened by vandals. People are free to like what they like regardless. It's no one else's business to vandalize them.

That might be true but it doesn't mean they are on the light end of polluting cars.

The simple fact that they are not aerodynamic dictates that they are on the big polluters out of the group.

12. How do "The Tyre Extinguishers" get from target vehicle to target vehicle?

They don't drive, do they?

Maybe Electric Bikes?

Fascinating, watching the western world collapse. And long overdue.
