Investment banker Peter Schiff told UFC color commentator Joe Rogan on Wednesday that socialists were making up environmental concerns about fracking in a secret plot to take away peoples private property.
The two public figures were debating the role of government regulations on Rogans podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience.
I think also the idea is that the government is going to be the one that is impartial, the government is going to be standing outside looking at this industry, having no vested interest in you profiting over you, or you over you, and say, Hey, these are the rules and this is how we can make this fair and ethical. That is the idea that most people have about the government, Rogan said.
Schiff, an ardent libertarian, said the government did have a vested interest in helping certain companies rather than others because politicians were corrupted by campaign donations. Even if campaign donations from big companies were restricted, the wealthy would still find other ways to influence the government. The only solution, Schiff said, was to limit the power of the government.

(225 posts)Should we even drastically limit the amount that can be spent on a campaign and not just the campaign donations those a the top will try to find ways to game the system in their favor. Now the only solution isn't to limit the power of the government though I think it's obvious it does need a tighter leash we also need to limit the power of private business. Historically American businesses and businessmen like Schiff have used similar arguments whenever a situation has become to FUBAR for the government not to intervene. Than when it does they throw a temper tantrum like some spoiled child whose parents no longer allow them to hog all the toys. Peter Schiff probably does know a great deal about how to run a business and sell a product. But running a business is not the same as governance and looking after the general welfare. Quite frankly I think history has proven that Business is far less trustworthy than the Government. The only things that can keep these greedy bastards in check is the boot of Government regulation on their necks and/or the "tyrannical yoke" of organized labor upon their backs. They have thus far proven a greater threat to the immediate welfare of the Citizens of this Country than the government has in our history, though both are complicit in the corruption that now grips America.
But than perhaps I am one of those "Private Property Snatching Socialists" he talks about. Of course I am just as equally contemptuous of his Libertarian Lies. I was a Libertarian once so I'm not speaking from a position of ignorance when I say that Libertarianism puts Property before People. Were it up to me I would "snatch" his privately owned businesses and turn them into Worker's Co-Ops. That any one person can impact the economic fates of so many people as a C.E.O can should be considered illegitimate in my not so humble opinion. Economic Democracy is the only way forward.
Schiff can eat crow.
