Is this the right major heading for this group?

Not to sound cruel or heartless where animals are concerned, but I am interested in the health benefits of a vegan diet. It cured me of lifelong hypertension, (190+/90+ to 115/70 in 6 weeks) so I can't take anyone seriously who pooh-poohs it. But I wear leather shoes and leather belts, because the cow they came from has already passed through McDonalds by the time I buy the belt, and nothing I can do will save the cow's life. Nor will my boycotting the one leather belt I buy every 10 years or so, shut down the leather industry.

However, eating vegan will save MY life, and the more people who realize that the more likely it is that we can put an end to animal cruelty, as a byproduct of saving our own health.

That said, however, I don't identify principally with the animal cruelty issue, which is probably why I never found this group until I asked where it might be. Shouldn't it really be under "health". That, of course, is just my humble opinion.

That said, here is what I tried to post in "Health" that got locked for being "off topic"



As far as I am concerned this is solid science, but because some self-proclaimed "skeptic" declared anything vegan to be "pseudo science" this post was forbidden in "health". Their loss.

It is heavily patrolled by mainstream medicine types who do not want to hear about or to change any factors in their life ,so give up on any discussions regarding nutrition ,preventative health factors or alternative choices in most instances . I have met many people in life who are happy to just take a pill and chill then see them again and now it is 2,3 pills and still just chillin not proactive on their health so I understand where they are coming from . Don't want to hear it . Doctor never mentioned it

The video truly would be 'off topic ' in the health group I have to agree .


So it is the glass half full vs glass half empty debate. Some will say why try ? Some will say why not?
Factory farming torture and cruelty to animals is a reason for being vegan, but it is just one reason I agree in the end even if one doesn't start from that point , by not participating in the purchase one is helping the cause

My favorite proteins include pea,beans ,seed and nuts. Not big on soy . How about you?

I don't eat things that pretend to be what they are not. I don't like soy "burgers" or veggie "hot dogs" or TVP that pretends to be ground beef.

When I eat yams I eat them as if they are yams. When I eat a rice and beans dish, I eat it as if it's rice and beans.

I have two sisters who are also both vegans. In fact, they became vegans long before I did. But they tend to prepare exotic dishes with tofu, and quinoa, and humus, and other peculiar things I never heard of before. I don't care for that myself. I make pea soup, or a baked potato, or potato/zucchini soup with broccoli and carrots, many different varieties of rice and beans, with different beans and different spices, beans and pasta with tomatoes, etc. Basic down home comfort food, just with no meat, dairy, eggs or refined oils.

As I write this I have a crockpot full of plain vanilla" rice and beans that will go into the fridge at bed time and provide my lunches for the next 5 or 6 days. I'll eat them tomorrow with salsa, and the next day with my homemade chili-flavored topping, and then with BBQ sauce and after that with some fresh tomatoes from my garden. One dish served 4 or 5 different ways. Since I cook for myself I always eat what I like, and when I get bored with one dish I move on to another.

that a lot of the mock products just don't make it .i also do a lot of raw foods and juicing

You said your OP was closed in Health but did you notice that this OP the day before was OK?
Just reiterating my point that a video like this which I thank you for I enjoyed , does not play well in that group

says a lot about the group. I know now that it was a mistake to venture in there without the proper reverence for the gospel according to "science". And I put "science" in quotes for obvious reasons. Like all fundamentalists they pick and choose what supports their preconceived dogma.

as much as I can simply because of my respect, compassion, and love of animals >.< Period. The health part is a welcomed side effect.
