Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy hits out Scottish EU bid

In a blunt message to Nicola Sturgeon, he said: "If the UK goes, Scotland goes too."

Mr Rajoy's comments came as the Scottish first minister visited Brussels for talks.

Although she met with with European Parliament president Martin Schulz, Ms Sturgeon was snubbed by European Council boss Donald Tusk.

The SNP leader has said that because Scotland voted by 62% to 38% against Brexit, the country should not be taken out of the EU against its will.
