Why Putin CANNOT negotiate for peace or admit defeat in Ukraine:

The whole of russian media is flooded with pro-war propaganda. There are no alternate viewpoints in russian media, because there is no media that isn't government-controlled, because Putin's government has arrested them or forced them into quitting.
1. The result is constant barrage how the Russia-Ukraine-war is a battle of good-vs-evil with Russia itself being at stake.
2. The russian nationalists have been fed a constant diet how victory in Ukraine is "just around the corner" and all it will take is just one more big effort.
(Sound familiar?)
What would happen if Putin were to admit military defeat in Ukraine? Or were to negotiate a peace-treaty that leaves Ukraine intact as a state?
THOSE VERY SAME RUSSIAN PATRIOTS WOULD KILL PUTIN FOR BETRAYING RUSSIA!
After all, why would Putin admit defeat when victory is just around the corner?
After all, why would Putin agree to a peace that leaves Ukraine in the hands of NATO-loving Nazi-Satanists who want to destroy Russia?
That's why the starting-position in all of Russia's offers for a peaceful resolution is that Ukraine must first agree to give Russia everything they want... and the rest is up for negotiation.
Anything less than total victory will get Putin assassinated by the war-mongering ultra-nationalists that his own propaganda created.
Which is compounded by the additional problem that there are about half a dozen definitions of "victory" floating about in Russia's media-landscape.
