Florida’s Bill Nelson has ‘great many friends in the Jewish lobby’
In attempting to fill the role of Secretary of Defense for the next administration, critics have already lashed out against former Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Republican from Nebraska, calling attention to his controversial statements on the state of Israel and the “Jewish lobby.”
Florida’s U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson was asked to comment on the situation by the Weekly Standard and he offered an intersting response.
“I won’t comment on that, but I’ll comment on [this],” Nelson told reporters on Tuesday. “I have a great many friends in the Jewish lobby.”
Nelson has portrayed himself as a staunch advocate of Israel in the U.S. Senate, earmarking and sponsoring several bills in order to help the Middle Eastern state pay for missile defense systems, such as the Iron Dome.
