I/P has a slightly different set of rules. They're online if you want them.

Then again, this isn't an especially "conservative" video all by itself. It either shows moral outrage at an injustice committed in the effort to stop an injustice or it shows a note-taker who really can't cope with being impotent in the face of others who don't share her POV.


USAC is sort of a strange entity. It's a composite of all kinds of representatives for different constituencies, but also is a stu gov that has a lot of smaller member organizations that it has to please. Typically fairly liberal, it's also got a bit of a libertarian streak. BDS would have passed most years since it's the kind of thing that USAC tends to like doing (taking on fairly pointless causes so that it can tell its UCSA rep how to vote in order to get the Board of Regents and the student regent to agree--but the lack of inclusion of a member group that tends to support Israel would rankle a lot of those who really value inclusion.

Its structure can be a bit of a conundrum. In some years it openly disses some of its member groups. In other years, it really tries to make nice with all of them. Sometimes frats control it, sometimes "interest groups" control it. (Yes, that's an odd distinction, but you get all kinds of weird distinctions in USAC. So a "Muslim Students Association" was fine, but they tried to get rid of the Jewish Students Assoc. Why? Because "Muslim" could be a culture but "Jewish" could only be a religion. The debate lasted a long time before those involved graduated so USAC could move on. Let's not even talk about the abortive "Christian Students Association" that somebody else decided to try to start.)

It always has a fair number of ardent zealots for a cause, though.

As someone who was one of the main organizers AGAINST divestment at UCLA, I DEMAND that you take down this video. This woman, although she may have differing views on the conflict and supported divestment, remained completely impartial during the entire meeting as the minutetaker. After a 12 hour, extremely emotional meeting, she broke down. You are DOING A HUGE DISSERVICE to the cause by keeping this video up. We do not need to gang up on a 20 year old woman, regardless of what she believes in, to make our case.
