Shaath denies making 'Jewish state' offer

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – A top member of Fatah on Tuesday denied reports by Israeli media that he said the Palestinian Authority would consider recognition of Israel as a Jewish state.

Central Committee member Nabil Shaath was quoted by official radio as saying that “the Palestinian leadership would consider recognizing Israel as a Jewish state after negotiations come to an end and after all controversial issues are solved.”

In response, Shaath told Ma’an that his quotes were misinterpreted.

“There was discussion Monday with a delegation of Harvard University students about the Palestinian attitude toward recognition of Israel as a Jewish state,” Shaath said.

Neither side is willing to recognize the other. They hate each other so much, it is in their DNA's.

It is a perpetual war that will be going far beyond our lifetimes. President Obama is yet another in a string of Presidents who claims to be making progress towards a peace agreement. Only that is far from the truth, and it is just more political posturing. The next President, and the one after that, and the one after that, will say the same thing while in office, because nobody likes a pessimist. Blind optimism is the only acceptable course of action.
