Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned Wednesday the recent anti-Arab attack in a northern Israeli Arab town.
"What happened in Fureidis is infuriating," Netanyahu said during a meeting with Arab, Bedouin, Druze, and Circassian Likud activists. "We are working to find those responsible. I have ordered reinforcements and we are using the Shin Bet's tools. This is a major target because it contradicts our character and our values."
On Monday night, vandals spray-painted a Star of David and the phrase close mosques, not yeshivas on a mosque. The tires of several cars parked in the area were slashed as well. On Wednesday, residents of Fureidis declared a general strike to protest the hate crime.
In the second anti-Arab attack in 24 hours, a car belonging to a Nazareth resident was vandalized Wednesday in an apparent hate crime by Jewish extremists. The vandals slashed the tires of the car, which was parked in the predominantly Jewish town Yokneam, and spray-painted a Star of David on its doors. This is the sixth time a car belonging to an Arab has been vandalized in the town in the last month.

(5,397 posts)Of "doomed if you do. Doomed if you don't." Clearly it didn't really matter which side bibi came down on here. It's not about his actual actions or what his thoughts on various issues are. Your comment would have been critical regardless; had his opinion been the reverse you would have nailed him for his beliefs. Since you couldn't reject his actual statement you refused its validity.
Bibi is an asshole, but that's irrelevant here. Your statement is a great example of how for many people Israel's actual actions are less relevant than the idea that they're wrong regardless of what they do.

(14,851 posts)A good reason why debate with the kind of posters you describe is futile and I don't engage anymore with posters like the description you so brilliantly illuminated in your post.

(12,606 posts)It's not "that they're wrong regardless of what they do" its that they, Israel's leadership, are fucking hypocrites.
But, please help yourself to a plate of victimization if it makes you feel better.

(5,397 posts)So whenever someone points out problematic aspects of your collective posts you just inherently resort to accusing them of playing the victim card? Bad form on your part. My post merely noted your obvious agenda as highlighted via a particularly obvious example.
Do you even disagree with my conclusion?
As opposed to whom? The nature of international politics is inherently hypocritical. Can you name a single politician worldwide who hasn't made statements that run counter to policy decisions they've made?
The reality, of course, is that some of these issues are more nuanced than others wrt morality. Israel isn't actually "eating Palestine from the inside out" or anything close to it. Your opinion on the ethics of settlements clearly differs from those held by Israel's right wing hawks. That's hardly surprising.
It's only hypocritical if bibi actually thinks his actions wrt the opt are unethical yet he does them anyway. Just because you consider his policies unethical doesn't mean he's acting hypocritically.
Regardless, my point still stands. Your commentary on Israel isn't related to their actions. Even when they enact policies that you've been calling for your response is to criticize.

(12,606 posts)One can't condemn attacks in one place, while turning a blind eye to what settlers do in the West bank or that they are there in the first place: protected by the IDF.
My point stands. It is about the actions, and side that Bibi has taken since they are hypocritical in nature.
I would, and have said that Dubya is a hypocritical assh*le, and since Bibi seems to be Israel's dubya I am not sure why you see the need to run to his defense. Perhaps you are alright with colonization of the West Bank?
There is no validity to a hypocritical assh*le picking and choosing outrage for committed crimes while they are up to their eyeballs in it someplace else.
Bibi is an assh*le, and that is what's relevant here.
Speaking of Israel's actual actions...When Israel's leadership finally removes itself from the West Bank and stops acting as an apartheid state then my opinion of it will be far gentler. Until then they deserve to reap what they have sown.

(5,397 posts)You believe that your view of Israel is based entirely on their actions and policies; and are in no way shaped by any other narrative or bias that might color your judgement? It's a totally objective process going on in your head?
I'm curious how you reacted to Israel's past concessions to the Palestinians... Did your opinion of them soften following their withdrawal from Gaza in 2005? How about when they signed the Oslo accords? Granting the Palestinians sovereignty over areas of WB land for the first time in written history? Did your opinion change when Israel offered all east Jerusalem residents the right to apply for Israeli citizenship? (These same people who Jordan had just seen their Jordanian citizenships stripped from them?)
Do you honestly feel that you judge these nations using the same rules? Or do you find your readings merely confirm that which you knew to be true already?

(45,850 posts)neither Gaza nor the West Bank was ever part of sovereign Israel not then not now
oh and I thought this beginning of your statement sort of curious what 'other' processes did you have in mind?
