During this month, perhaps on the 29th day, which marks the anniversary of the decision to divide Palestine and is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Jordanian representative at the UN is scheduled to represent the Palestinian people and the Arab Group to request that the Security Council vote on a draft resolution demanding an end to the occupation within a specified timeframe.
Regardless of the fate of the request and whether or not it will receive the nine votes required for it to be passed, or if the US will veto it or abstain from voting, especially if modifications are made to the resolution that are approved or rejected by the Arabs, I find it useful to review the course of the so-called "peace process" since the failure of Camp David.
Since May 1999, which marks the end of the period specified by the Oslo Accords to reach a final peace agreement, and after the failure of the Camp David Summit, the Second Intifada, which was desired by the Palestinian and the Israeli sides in order to achieve their objectives, broke out.
Ehud Barak began the aggression, following Sharon's provocative visit, which was the spark that ignited the Intifada, and committed a massacre during the early days of the Intifada. Yasser Arafat also supported the Intifada because he saw it as a means to improve the conditions for negotiations in a manner that would allow for reaching an agreement that would reinforce the Camp David summit.

(5,397 posts)The Israelis also desired the second intifada? Which was started by Barak, when he committed a massacre, several days into the intifada?
This stuff is fascinating. I never knew Barak committed a massacre. Or that the intifada had been going on for several days before there was any aggression.
But what I'd really like to know is how this guy knows that Arafat was murdered by poison. How can he rule out the laser beam theory that has an equal amount of evidence supporting it?

The release of the Swiss Institut de Radiophysiques Experts Forensic Report Concerning the Late President Yasser Arafat has lent further credence to the proposition that the iconic Palestinian leaders 2004 demise was an act of Sharon rather than of God or nature. Speaking to the Guardian, forensic scientist David Barclay concluded the report provides
[A] smoking gun.
I dont think theres any doubt at all.
The report provides strong evidence, in my view conclusive evidence, that theres at least 18 times the level of polonium in Arafats exhumed body as there should be.
I dont think theres any doubt at all.

(30,099 posts)Arafat planned it according to his wife..you're pretty funny at times, shira.
Sharon going to the Temple Mount had nothing to do with it, huh?

(30,109 posts)You'll find articles all over the place about it. Funny how you disregard her testimony so casually. There's no reason for her to make that up.
Besides Suha Arafat, many of the PA's leaders said the same thing:

(58,724 posts)The Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died of natural causes, French investigators have concluded. The team of scientific and medical experts found his death in 2004 was due to "old age following a generalised infection", ruling out allegations he was poisoned, it was reported on Tuesday.
Swiss scientists had previously reported "unexpectedly high activity" of radioactive polonium-210 in Arafat's body and personal effects, including his clothing, leading to accusations that he was assassinated.
On Tuesday, it was reported that the French investigators had ruled out poisoning in their report but that traces of polonium had been found.
A source told Reuters: "The results of the analyses allow us to conclude that the death was not the result of poisoning."

Yasser Arafat investigation: Russian probe finds death not caused by radiation
MOSCOW - A Russian probe into the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has found that his death wasn't caused by radiation - a finding that comes after a French probe found traces of the radioactive isotope polonium and a Swiss investigation said the timeframe of his illness and death was consistent with that of polonium poisoning.
Vladimir Uiba, the head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, said Thursday that Arafat died of natural causes and the agency had no plans to conduct further tests.

(5,397 posts)But not his own facts. And the opinions he holds can then be considered in any evaluation of his general trustworthiness , as is being done here. The man's beliefs about certain facts are pretty out there.
In any case I googled that quote of yours. It seems relevant that nothing in that butchered quote says anything about Sharon or poison or what "smoking gun" even refers to, or what he has no doubts at all about.
It seems odd that finklestein would reference a scientific report asserting arafat's assassination without quoting a single statement to that effect. Don't you think?
