Steven Dusterwald on the duty of engineers to speak out about 9/11

This show was broadcast on February 19, 2015.
Listen here: http://noliesradio.org/archives/95668

9/11 Truth and waking up the future

Steven Dusterwald, is a licensed professional structural engineer with 37 years of experience in the field, including 25 years as owner and principal of his own structural engineering firm in Las Vegas. In this episode of 9/11 Free Fall he discusses the controlled demolition evidence and the ductility of the steel in the towers. He also explains why engineers everywhere have a duty to speak out about the 9/11 controlled demolition issue.

9/11 Free Fall is now a proud member of No Lies Radio. To listen to much earlier episodes and interviews with great 9/11 activists go to http://www.911freefall.com/

2. Waking up to the future of the "9/11 truth movement"

For most people who were actually paying attention to what was being said, waking up to the future of the "9/11 truth movement" started happening around 2006. Dusterwald seems to be blissfully oblivious to the fact that engineers have been speaking out about 9/11 for a long time. But apparently, the problem is that they've been doing it in venues appropriate for technical discussions rather than YouTube videos and crackpot websites:

http://www.reddit.com/r/skeptic/comments/294k95/compilation_of_scientific_literature_that/

Dusterwald thinks there needs to be a new investigation because he doesn't understand the collapses, completely ignoring the fact that the vast majority of his profession understand it quite well. Furthermore, it isn't really all that difficult for non-professionals to understand, provided that they have a genuine interest in doing so. If Dusterwald or anyone else has a genuine interest in understanding it, a small sampling of the above list would be a damn good start. But instead, all we get from Dusterwald and other "truthers" is delusional and self-aggrandizing excuses for why 99.99% of all civil and structural engineers aren't impressed with "truther science."

Over and over, in this interview and his appearance as one of Richard Gage's "experts," Dusterwald demonstrates that he doesn't really know what happened in the collapses, which goes a long way in explaining why he doesn't understand why they happened. The problem is not so much that what Dusterwald says is technically wrong; the bigger problem is that it has virtually nothing to do with what actually happened on 9/11: His irrelevant and/or imaginary scenarios simply don't contribute anything meaningful to any serious technical discussion.

The future of the "truth movement" is that its only remaining sustenance comes from willful ignorance, which means that it will never quite go away, but neither will it ever rise above being an insignificant internet cult, preyed upon by hucksters like Richard Gage.

"Abstract

This paper presents a qualitative assessment of the importance of gravity columns on the stability behavior of a typical mid-rise (10 story) steel building subjected to corner compartment fires. Two ten-story steel buildings with composite floor systems were designed following the design practices in the US. One of these buildings had perimeter moment resisting frames (MRFs) to resist lateral loads while the other building had an interior core of RC shear walls. Effects of gravity loads and fire conditions were simulated using the finite element method and numerical analysis techniques.

The results from the numerical investigations indicated that gravity columns govern the overall stability of building structures under fire conditions. Gravity columns have the highest utilization ratio, and they are most likely to reach their critical temperatures first. If gravity column failure occurs, the load shed or dropped by the failed column has to be redistributed to the neighboring columns to maintain overall structural stability. This axial load redistribution can occur through the development of alternate load paths including catenary action. Simulation results indicate that the presence of steel reinforcement in the concrete slabs (in addition to the minimum shrinkage reinforcement) facilitates uniform redistribution of the axial load dropped by the failed gravity column to the neighboring columns. The additional steel reinforcement improves the flexural and tensile strengths of the composite floor system, which enhances its ability to develop alternate load paths including catenary action in the slab, and thus maintain structural stability after gravity column failure."
nope doesn't say it there!

"Abstract

This paper reports on an investigation of the effects of fire on long span truss floor systems in a tall building environment. The effects of fire spread over multiple floors of a building are the focus of this research, especially where this may lead to progressive collapse. The results from an investigation of a two-dimensional model of a multistory office building analysis are presented. The model is representative of the type of construction used in the World Trade Center Towers 1 and 2. The local and global response of the model is described over the course of a concurrent fire on three floors reaching a peak compartment temperature of 800 degrees C. The results of the analysis show that large displacements may occur in long span structural floor systems without failure, however, the interaction of the highly deflected floors with the exterior or perimeter columns can lead to structural collapse. Additional structural members, such as hat trusses, that allow redistribution of loads away from the exterior columns to the core columns have a significant beneficial impact on the robustness of the structure."
again no!

you're good at sending someone on a wild goose chase but fail miserably in showing any evidence that buildings collapse from fire!

... I'm going to just post full text in the comments." Which he did.

What the link shows is that, as I said, Dusterwald is "blissfully oblivious to the fact that engineers have been speaking out about 9/11 for a long time." And what you demonstrate is what I said about willful ignorance: You don't refute anything by telling us how disinterested you are in reading what qualified experts have to say.

There certainly was a 7-hour unfought fire; WTC 7 certainly did collapse; the collapse certainly can be explained in terms of real science and actual structural engineering principles; there certainly are no magical silent explosives; and Gage's "experts" have manifestly failed to provide a single valid technical reason for thinking anything other than the fire caused the collapse, not to mention any rational reason for why the imaginary perps would have done such a thing. You're welcome to continue believing otherwise for as long as you wish and dismissing any attempt to explain it as "sophistry," and I really couldn't care very much less. And that is the future of the "truth movement."

Again you fail. The link shows no such thing. Those are just your words which prove nothing but your denial. Not what the link shows.

The author of that Reddit thread you linked seems as arrogant, egotistical, condescending and patronizing as you. Are you benthamitemetric?

I think I understand your seething anger, Billy. You've spent countless hours (and hours and hours and hours) insulting, mocking and trash talking every single person that dare not accept your version of reality, yet more people than ever question the Official Conspiracy Theory. Next week- even more. I'd be more than a little upset too with such utter failure. One day no one will admit to bashing those who demanded the truth.

In the future, don't be too hard on yourself. You are only one person after all. You can't be typing EVERYWHERE someone talks about the fraud that is 911.

Oh and by the way, isn't it a shame that the 28 redacted pages haven't been declassified yet? If there is nothing to hide there is nothing to fear.

Why is that?

And actually, since there's only a couple of "truth movement" stragglers left on this board -- none of whom seem to be able to actually discuss any issue -- I don't spend much time posting here these days.
