Today I saw, for the very first time, a LGBT Business set-aside on a project.
My company is women-owned as i am one of three partners, the other two being women. We are certified as a Women's Business Enterprise (WBE).
There are all manner of set asides for "disadvantaged" and "emerging" businesses. Minority owned, women owned, veteran owned, disabled veteran owned, etc. etc.
Today, for the very first time, I saw a requirement for LGBT business participation.
The organization making the solicitation and setting the requirement is one of the Big Financial Institutions. While I saw it on the solicitation to which we are responding, the requirement, for them, is a standard of the way they procure goods and services.
As for all such requirements, one gets a certain degree of preference, but one is not guaranteed the contract simply because they comply.
I am not free to say who the company is, but trust me, you might be nicely surprised by it. Further, I would have thought a government would have done this, not a private sector company.
Has anyone else seen such a requirement?
