New York Marriage Law Survives Legal Challenge

Jason McGuire, the executive director of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, said he was “disappointed” by the decision but would work with the group’s attorneys at Liberty Counsel to consider their legal options. The ruling could be appealed.

2. It's called conservative liberty

Which means that the 2nd amendment was really supposed to be the 1st amendment, and trumps everything. The founding fathers, in the age of muskets, really did intend for every citizen to have full access to AK-47's, and any other assault rifle, or military grade armament that he or she can afford.. oh, never mind, it really was only meant for men to have that kind of access.. but they accept it for women now.. as long as they are like Ann Coulter or Palin.

Their liberty means that the freedom of speech is important, as long as you only say what they like to hear.. and it better include "god".

Their liberty means freedom of the press - Everyone should watch Fox news, which is "fair and balanced".

Their liberty means protecting the right of marriage being defined the way their bible describes it.. well, okay their bible doesn't really talk about it, but we'll just ignore that little technicality.

Their liberty means protecting the rights of a lump of non-cognitive growing cells over the choice of a woman. Ironically, it doesn't mean protecting the life of adults who may very well have been charged and convicted falsely.

Yep, that's pretty much their version of liberty.. and how dare anyone have the audacity of having a different view.

6. It's about marketing

And frankly, as much as I loathe the conservatives, I have to recognize that they've got the marketing down.

It's really time for progressives to start working on the marketing. Focus group everything, including names.

We won one point with "marriage equality". After all, even the low-information types look at that as two positive concepts, so the groups working toward equality are winning--to the point where a lot of conservatives have said it's not worth fighting any more.

And it's not just about us. It's about everything. Most Americans are too tired to really pay attention.

Progressives really need to stop bringing pillows to the political gunfight.
