90% of Gay/Lesbian Vote Went to Obama

The Community Marketing & Insights (CMI) pre-election poll showed that 90% of gay men and lesbians voted for Barack Obama.

The election poll of 6,625 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) United States citizens was administered November 2-4, 2012 and responses were received from all 50 states. LGBTs represent an estimated 5% of United States voters and an overwhelming majority supported the coalition that produced Barack Obama's victory.

90% support for Obama was seen in all Battleground States. The LGBT percentage was just below the level that Obama received from the African American community.

Demonstrating the importance of the election, 95% of LGBTs indicated that they would vote in the election and 41% indicated that the had already voted before election day.

Final data indicated that 90% supported Barack Obama, 6% for Mitt Romney and 4% a third party candidate.

On edit: I apologize. There's no requirement that says you have to vote with your sexual preference on your sleeve. But still.... 6% voted for Romney??

4. a fair number of people vote republican solely because they want their own taxes cut.

there's a reason republicans keep talking about tax cuts -- those words directly ping the dopamine center for many american voters. i swear it's like a narcotic the way they react to the promise of a tax cut.

literally, they act like addicts, putting basic needs and sanity aside for the possibility of one more hit.
they can't help themselves.

they used to be single issue (taxes) voters, but actually each of them came around to the obama camp for one reason or another before obama even fully embraced gay marriage.

persistence pays off, and it really helped that the tea party made the republicans look even crazier than usual.

5. i wonder how much of it had to do with the thing about him bullying that kid

i noticed many gays were very negative towards romney, far more than they were with other republicans who were anti gay also.

i think because when republicans talk about things like opposing same sex marriage and other policy matters some gays think it's about them trying to get elected. i know many gay mccain supporters didn't think he was really anti gay. bush had a lot of gays working for him even though they were closeted.

but i think that bullying story and his refusal to defend that one advisor who was gay came off worse because it wasn't about him taking policy positions and something that can be said to be about winning the election but rather it came off more personal.

7. very good point. my friends had previously been dismissive of homosexuality as a political issue

because they figured it was just noise, and while they didn't like it, they figured the federal government wasn't really going to ever do anything that would adversely affect their lives as gay men.

i think rmoney and obama did make the difference more apparent and real than it had been in previous races.
