Fort Hood Announces It Will Hold Its First LGBT Pride Event

News 92 in Houston is reporting that Fort Hood Army Base near Killeen Texas, will hold its first Pride Event next month – as directed by the Defense Department.

Clarence A. Johnson, Director of the Department Of Defense’s Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity, wrote a memo to all military bases saying:

“We recognize gay, lesbian and bisexual service members and LGBT civilians for their dedicated service to our country; the heroic contributions made by these Americans strengthen our national security. During the month of June, let’s rededicate ourselves to equity, dignity and respect for all, and celebrate the diversity of the DOD workforce.”

Responding to Director Johnson, Fort Hood, deep in the heart of Texas, announced it will host its first ever Pride Event June 25. Brigadier General Tammy Smith, U.S. Army Reserve deputy chief of staff will be the keynote speaker.
