LGBT equality activists in New Mexico protested a local pastor on Sunday for opposing Gov. Susana Martinezs (R) appointment of Doug Howe, a gay man, to the Public Regulation Commission. Pastor Steve Smothermon of One Legacy Church told NMPolitics.net, a local political blog, last month that Martinez looked me in the eye personally and said shes socially conservative she wouldnt espouse the homosexual agenda. He said Howes appointment goes against that:
These arent the people we voted for you to appoint. We voted for you to appoint people who think like we do, he said, adding that he is not against the human being, but the lifestyle and the political power that the homosexual agenda has today, as a lobbying agenda, thats what I begin to come against. [...]
On Sunday, Smothermon, speaking to his 20,000-member congregation, drew applause for saying he wouldnt apologize for insisting on our right to hold a biblical world view, the newspaper reported.
Just like the mayor, if you campaign as a conservative, and you say you will govern as a conservative, I have an expectation when you say to me that you will do what you said, and hire and appoint people that are conservatives, the Journal quoted Smothermon as saying. Im just a pastor of a church in this state that believes that people ought to keep their word, he said.
Martinez office is defending Howe, arguing that he was the most-qualified applicant for the vacancy. Meanwhile, at Sundays rally, One Legacy Church member, Michael Angel Gutierrez, told the protesters he had been gay for 25 years, but because of the truth that God has revealed to me, Im no longer a homosexual man.

(3,310 posts)I missed that memo. Are there meeting minutes? Like, who's the CEO (CEH?) and who called this meeting without inviting moi?
I'm working with an outdated model here. It goes:
1. Shut the alarm clock off.
2. Shuffle to the kitchen for a cup of courage.
3. Check the dogs' food and water bowls.
4. Check email for job listings.
5. Apply at every job that seems remotely likely.
6. Nurse husbear and render assistance as needed (continuous).
7. Scrape lunch and supper together.
8. Keep dishwasher and washing machines humming. Deal with loads of washing when they're finished. Reload, repeat.
9. Get everyone medicated and ready for bed.
10. Set the alarm clock and try to get some sleep. If someone stirs in the night, jump to their aid.
11. Repeat from the top on the next day.
Funny, taking over the world isn't among the bullet-points. It's all I can do to manage my own little world.

The US was created as a country with a separation of church and State. I, for one, demand that it stay that way and that politicians be taught what that means and that refusal to honor their commitment to uphold the constitution should result in automatic ineligibility to hold further office.
