For any of the states that want to make abuse a "family matter" that doesn't involve the authorities

moving backwards is no way to run a country. My mother was abused by my father who just so happened to be a cop. I'm in my forties, so it was back at a time when authority figures, mainly men, were content to punch around their wives (their property) and beat them into submission without much concern for any consequences. My militant father beat all of us kids too by the way. Here's a powerful anthem for women. There's no going back for women, no matter how many powerful men try to push it in that direction, no matter how many backwards laws they try to pass. All of a sudden, with Republicans in charge,it's been one attack after another on women. They attack women's health issues including but not limited to choice and contraception, they attack women's rights to be in combat and say it's ok for them to fly "smal"l planes, and one lunatic tells women to put an aspirin between their legs as a contraceptive measure. They all make me sick. Anyway, here's a powerful anthem for women. Written by two men and arranged by a man. Most of us love women.

I will never understand it either. The key I believe is to elect more and more women to positions louslobbs Feb 2012 #2

idiot government officials who will allow all manners of abuse that would be illegal and prosecuted if they were done to a stranger.

(For that matter, if they were done to a child, they would also be a crime.) I do not understand how they can even try to make a case for that abuse to be declared a "family matter" just because a the man has a relationship with the woman.

of authority so that old white men can no longer call the shots on women's issues. It's really disgusting and makes my stomach turn to think about Issa holding a meeting on contraception with no women present. That in and of itself speaks volumes.

are doing because women vote and we all know that their's is a dying breed. It's really sad watching old white men trying to hold on to their power and authority.......clinging to and trying to force us all back to an ugly and painful past.

It is appalling how some conservatives are intent on pushing women to those "good old days."

Could potentially move in this direction as we have seen in this country as of late with the Thugs moving us backwards.

Chuck Grassley, the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee, has his own version of the Violence

Against Women Act that was reauthorized in 2005. His bill contains "a huge reduction in authorized financing, and elimination of the Justice Department office devoted to administering the law and coordinating the nation’s response to domestic violence and sexual assaults." Grassley’s funding cuts are above and beyond the $135 million reduction in funding from 2005 levels already contained in the bill the Judiciary Committee Republicans unanimously rejected…

The Violence Against Women Act was reauthorized in 2005 by unanimous consent in the Senate and with 415 votes in favor in the House, and signed by George W. Bush.

It’s up for reauthorization again now, and of course, this time, Republicans have a problem with it. The bill—which is actually cosponsored by Idaho Republican Sen. Mike Crapo—received no Republican votes in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

So I'd say any state run by white, old, nasty, hypocrite male Republicans, could potentially move in the "Domestic Violence is a Family Matter" direction.......which of course is always backwards and causes pain, suffering and sometimes death for those who they are attacking......mainly women as of late.
