(22,756 posts)and only have the trailer... looks like the same ole stuff... nothing new ...but same thing I have been telling my family and friends ad nauseam for decades... we all have to come to the realization on our own time but, damn, I hate seeing my friends and family suffering from diabetes, etc...
...and the gov't subsidizes the junk food and most politicians refuse to regulate and even most here (on DU) go crazy at the mention of taxing soft drinks and such

(111,255 posts)If you want more of something, you subsidize it. If you want less of something, you tax it.
Obviously, we need more fruits and veggies. We need less added fats, sugar and salt in processed foods. Making laws against fat, sugar and salt would be extremely unpopular. Taxing them as unnecessary additives and using the taxes to subsidize fruit and vegetable growers would make a great deal of sense and I think people would approve: think of having an orange cost the same as a bag of chips or candy bar.
However, they are not in the business of promoting the general welfare any more, the business of government is business, exactly the way Calvin Coolidge said it was as they wound up to the Great Depression.
However, it's just too easy to blame obesity and diabetes on processed foods and sugary sodas. While I'm sure these things play a role, especially in children, it's far from the whole picture in obese adults and starving plus exercising will provide only a temporary solution as the pounds come back to the scene of the crime within 5 years, even in people who have had bariatric surgery.
In the meantime, the best advice I can offer anyone is to learn how to cook. At least you'll be eating the healthiest possible foods you can afford and will avoid most of the added fats, salt and sugar that are making so many people sick.

(3,286 posts)from the trailer, about sums up Life in the USA.
A million kinds of processed food all using "sugar" as bait to attract the consumer. Unregulated, the "bait" becomes the product eventually.
Of course, because you are all blessed by the holy spirit of rugged individualism, nobody can take away your candy.

(22,756 posts)hate to be cynical but yup, money does trump all these days
unfortunately, that "holy spirit of rugged individualism" actually costs all of us... in the way of tax dollars for medical care to emotional pain watching loved ones suffer...
