well, let me start by telling the story about my friend.
ill just start right away.
my friend died at the age of 21 because of heart attack, while sleeping.
i cant understand how come it is possible, he's an athletic guy, good body built.
I'm just trying to convince myself that its his time already.

(285 posts)To those who knew him, who loved him, no - it was not his time. 21 is way too young for that. I'm very sorry for you and those closest to this young man.
But his body, specifically his heart, must've had an anomaly that caused this tragic event. Over time we all learn of other instances where this happens without notice to a young person, and it never makes sense.
I understand that those with a form of faith, if genuinely cultivated over the years, will use that to help cope with such tragedy. I personally don't have that option, and you may not either. Even so, you may consider ways to adjust your life, your thinking, to carry on in a way that reflects positively on what your friend meant to you and others who knew him. Nothing can bring him back, but if things can be changed for the better, specifically because of what his life meant to you and others, then his brief presence here on earth will continue to have value and a purpose for years to come.
Wishing you peace and hope...

(20,582 posts)The shock of losing someone so young is traumatic and terrible. I can only wish you strength and, eventually, the comfort of the many good memories you have with him. I'm so sorry.

(602 posts)Many years ago, I lost a college friend the same way. Same age as your friend. A group of us had been out together the night before, and had had a good time. We, his friends, found some consolation in the fact that he went to sleep happy and died peacefully.

(111,256 posts)especially in athletic young men. No one really knows why this happens, most of the young men who die are in great condition, don't smoke, and have clean coronary arteries. It's suspected they have had a hidden dysrhythmia that's been there from youth, firing in short bursts, that finally becomes sustained and kills them. We honestly don't know.
While some of this can be detected by EKG, the test also excludes quite a lot of young athletes from sports who would never be at significant risk.
Just know that it's very quick, your friend never knew what hit him. I'm just sorry you lost him too soon.
