Related: About this forumI am sleeping so much better since I reduced blue light at night on the puter/e-book use.
I knew as we age, it is common to have sleep problems, and sure enough, over the past few years, falling asleep and staying asleep has been a problem.
I have been reading of the effects of computer/e-book use at night which inhibits melatonin production, because of blue light waves... and can affect sleep.
So, out of curiosity, I got a pair of orange lens sunglasses, and started using them from 8 pm on when at the puter and in bed reading the e-book.
Been a week now.
And it works.
Falling asleep naturally about 20 minutes after going to bed, and have much deeper sleep, feel more alert the next day, and have more energy.
Did an experiment and did not use them 2 nights ago, felt sluggish and dull the next day.
Mr. Dixie is off searching for a pair today.

(3,660 posts)over to Gunnars which blocks a lot of the blue light, as well as using Flux. It's helped me a lot.

(4,797 posts)After sunset it changes the screen tint towards the warmer end of the spectrum. Same idea as your glasses. It does seem to help!

(60,010 posts)I just realized that we get very poor sleep thru out our lives..first as parents of babies, then toddlers, then work schedule and stresses, etc.
When I retired, I think I slept for about 6 months before I felt rested.

(5,937 posts)I use it, but I'm so bad at sleeping I can't tell how it works. It removes white and blue light from monitors at night. They have versions for many devices/OS.

(15,805 posts)These lights have several different color selections -- red, yellow, green purple and blue -- and since blue is my fav color, that's what they are all set on. I do sleep poorly, and there's a blue nightlight in my BR and another in the bath, and one in the hallway, so with the doors open, I guess that's like a triple shot.
I'm going to change the color settings tonight, but now I wonder what color might be better?

(60,010 posts)What is really weird is that when I take the glasses off, and look around the room, everything has a bluish tint for awhile, until my eyes adjust.

If I were to do it again, I would grab a pair of orange lens sunglasses at the Dollar store.
But these DO have wrap around to keep all light out.

Who knew what good sleep could do, eh?

(17,465 posts)It automatically reduces the brightness and color temperature on my phone as the sun is setting, and reverses the process at sunrise.
It's free and works like a charm. I find the dimmer, more reddish tint to be easier on the eyes, too.
Edit: I see someone mentioned "f.lux" for Windows PC already. I recommend that, too.

(60,010 posts)know with these orange glasses, things look a lot brighter onscreen, overall...sunnier.
But it is hard to distinguish between green and blue. Still, the benefits are so worth it to me.
