Vaccine for Staph More Lethal Than Skin Cancer Tested

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-09-17/superbug-vaccine-tested-by-pfizer-glaxo-zap-deadly-staph.html

A new wave of experimental vaccines is the medical community’s latest hope against a powerful staph infection that kills more people in the U.S. than skin cancer and costs as much as $8 billion a year to treat.

Pfizer Inc. (PFE) and GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK), two of the world’s biggest drugmakers, and NovaDigm Therapeutics Inc., a closely held biotechnology company, are each testing novel vaccines to halt methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, long a dangerous infection in hospitals and nursing homes and which is now increasingly finding its way into daycare centers, schools and prisons.

The vaccines are in early studies and years away from possible approval. Two other drug companies have already tried and failed to make an effective vaccine, most recently Merck & Co. (MRK) in 2011. Still, as infections spread, doctors are eager for a vaccine that works.

“It’s very clear we need a vaccine, and we need it soon,” said Robert Daum, a pediatrics professor at the University of Chicago and principal investigator at the school’s MRSA Research Center, in a telephone interview. “The challenge is, we don’t really know what makes people immune to staph infections.”

Until I met him.

He was as bad at it as I was.

He'll be the last time I do that & I miss him.

4. the title of this thread is badly worded, what meaning are you saying?

is the title an attempt like the Quack Doctor Wakefield and his proven phony studies to stop vaccines?

We need vaccines and need them now for everything and anything

Staph infections kill. I want more vaccines because people are dying every day from it, or getting severly ill and almost near death.

While I agree the title is poorly worded, you are quick to make an assumption with very little evidence. You would have been better off doing a little more investigation before posting. The article is obviously pro-vaccine.

6. Bloomberg NEWS not bloomberg the person

and it matters little who wrote the title- the point is what is the angle of the title, it is totally misleading?
(most titles are written anyhow by a title writer, not the newsperson who wrote the article
(i.e. all titles in the NY Post and NY Daily News and NY Times).

and sometimes the person writing a title wishes to convey their political voice different from the author of the article

I know the article doesn't say it, as I read it three times to see where in the article it said what the title says (so my, you are the one quick to assume)

BTW, I am not making an assumption about the quack doctor Wakefield who was thoroughly discredited a zillion times over, and whom, because of his quackdom, caused alot of children to become sick who did not get the vaccines, and especially diseases that were thought eradicated have come back.

vaccines=good.
wakefiled should have been jailed for the damage he did (or at least sued 10x over)

I first thought that the vaccine was more lethal than skin cancer.

But I did read it and now I understand what you are posting.
