Is anyone watching "Sharp Objects" on HBO?
I'm not a Gillian Flynn fan. Couldn't even finish "Gone Girl", but this mini-series is pretty good. Amy Adams is good. For some reason it reminds me of the first "True Crime" series.

(6,794 posts)It is good. Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson are beyond good. One those programs that you look forward too each week.

(102,236 posts)I'm convinced the Mother killed the sister via Munchausen by Proxy (haven't read the book, just my prediction).
There have been a lot of complaints about how small town MO is depicted, I've noted in reviews of the series. My parents, aunts, uncles, cousins lived in a small farm town in MO (not in the SE as the one depicted on the show, however). While they have it right about the boredom and desperation to "get out" for most kids growing up there, I don't think the insular nature and cliques apply at all.
Seems a bit derisive, in that respect.

(6,794 posts)We went to Salisbury, MO, a year ago for a relatives 80th birthday. We were struck by how it had changed. Small, rural towns like Salisbury are dying. The young generation is leaving. Cant blame them, I would leave, too. Agree, the small towns are not as twisted as the town in Sharp Objects. Just empty and boring.

(20,185 posts)I was really getting into it too. Unfortunately I stumbled upon SPOILERS in an old article in Vanity Fair, so you've been warned.
I'll still watch the rest, but now that I know who the killer is it will be anti-climactic, to say the least.
How hot is Chris Messina though?

(16,377 posts)Yep, he's hot and the chemistry between those two is also hot, LOL.

(20,185 posts)They had remained friends since Julie and Julia and wanted to work together again, but both wanted something heavier than her cooking and him eating her food. Uh, I think they found it - LOL.
Patricia Clarkson - holy cow! And the Emmy goes too ....

(20,185 posts)Wow! I like a good love/sex scene as much as the next person, but let's face it. Some are hot and some are not. Most are predictable and many are gratuitous, especially when it comes to female nudity. But this scene was like none I'd ever seen. Tense, unpredictable and so EMOTIONAL. It was a really brave performance by Amy Adans and Chris Messina.
